New Covid-19 cases down by 16.9% to 15,549 last week

Occupancy for ICU beds increased by 1% in the past week.

Admissions to public hospitals have also decreased for Covid-19 patients across all categories.

The number of new Covid-19 cases last week dropped by 16.9% to 15,549 from 18,715 the week before, says health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

In his update for the week ending Sept 3, Noor Hisham said the number of Covid-19 patients admitted to public hospitals under Category 1 and 2 decreased by 9.4% per 100,000 from the preceding week, while Category 3,4 and 5 patients dropped by 3.6%.

Admissions in low-risk quarantine centres have also gone down by 21.4%.

Overall bed occupancy for non-critical beds decreased by 1% but intensive care unit (ICU) beds increased by 1%.

Meanwhile, active cases decreased during the week by 13.4% to 31,333.

“Recoveries dropped by 20.9% from 25,037 to 19,813,” Noor Hisham said.

“The number of deaths decreased by 21.7% from 60 to 47, bringing the cumulative figure for fatalities to 36,243.”

He said a total of 4,789,552 Covid-19 cases have been recorded in the country since January 2020.
