Review redacted sections of LCS reports, AG urged

DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang also says the defence ministry should explain how it has implemented the recommendations in the two reports.

Two reports into the late delivery of the littoral combat ships have been declassified although several parts were redacted.
PETALING JAYA:
DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang has urged Attorney-General Idrus Harun to review the redacted sections of two reports on the controversial RM9 billion littoral combat ship (LCS) project.

The Iskandar Puteri MP said if Idrus opts not to review the redacted sections, he should at least explain why those parts of the reports were redacted.

“This is to illustrate that the government is acting in accordance with good governance and not arbitrarily,” he said in a statement, adding that failure to adhere to good governance norms was what had caused the LCS scandal in the first place.

Lim also said defence minister Hishammuddin Hussein should explain to Parliament how the ministry has implemented the recommendations made in the two LCS reports.

Putrajaya has declassified the governance, procurement and finance investigation committee’s report on the project, while Boustead Heavy Industries Corporation (BHIC) had also made public its forensic audit report on the late delivery of the ships.

BHIC is a major shareholder of Boustead Naval Shipyard Sdn Bhd (BNS), the defence ministry’s contractor to build six frigates in the LCS project.

In August, Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee released its report on the project, prompting backlash against Barisan Nasional and other figures who were in the government at the time.

Later that month, BNS managing director Ahmad Ramli Nor was charged with three counts of criminal breach of trust involving RM21.08 million.
