He said the Cabinet reached the unanimous decision on Friday. In response to market and industry feedback, the government also decided not to float chicken prices.
“Further details regarding the decision will be announced after the anti-inflation task force meeting tomorrow,” he said in a tweet today.
The ministry’s secretary-general, Azman Mohd Yusof, had said last month that the government might not continue with the RM9.40 ceiling price for the peninsula after Aug 31 as chicken supply had stabilised.
He said the market price of whole chicken was below the ceiling price, with some sellers selling chicken for as little as RM6.99 per kg.
Most suppliers no longer faced production problems, leading to an excess in supply, he said.
Previously, agriculture and food industries minister Ronald Kiandee said that the government would review the ceiling price of standard chicken and the ban on exports after Aug 31.
