Labelling it as a “war”, Rafizi said the party’s grassroots had a role to play in the fight against Barisan Nasional, adding that PKR will be ready with its machinery.
“Let them (Umno) fight among themselves on when GE15 should be held. What’s important is that we must be ready.
“In a month’s time, we will shortlist our candidates and settle all negotiations on the party’s seats,” he said in his speech at PKR’s national convention.
Rafizi also urged the party’s grassroots to keep their intentions pure and refrain from becoming like former deputy president Azmin Ali and his friends, who had previously “backstabbed” the party.
“If there are those who win (in the next general election) but do not get any government position, do not backstab us like Azmin and his friends,” he said.
Rafizi also said PKR was not a party that could easily be beaten, saying that it possessed the strength to rise up every time it fell.
“Every time we fall, every time people laugh at us, we are able to find our inner strength to rise quickly again,” he said, adding that PKR was on its way to regaining lost ground.
Regarding the littoral combat ships (LCS) scandal, Rafizi said the exposé proved that it was the Malay politicians who were harming other Malays in the country.
“This is the same party that supposedly wants to defend the Malays.
“Those weakening the military of our country are not the soldiers. What’s weakening the system is the lack of allocations by the defence ministry for weapons and facilities,” he said.
Boustead Naval Shipyard Sdn Bhd (BNS) was awarded a contract to build six frigates under the troubled RM9 billion LCS project, which has come under parliamentary scrutiny over costs and delays in construction.
The first ship was launched in 2017 and scheduled for delivery in 2019, with the rest at six-month intervals. However, none have been completed or delivered.
The project was plunged into controversy earlier this month after the Public Accounts Committee questioned management and contract decisions, resulting in no ships being delivered even though RM6.08 billion had already been spent.
