Teen dies after alleged beating by employer

Police say the 16-year-old odd-job worker is believed to have been struck with a helmet.

Police say they have arrested a 40-year-old suspect in connection with the teenager’s death.
GUA MUSANG:
A 16-year-old odd-job worker died yesterday after allegedly being beaten with a helmet by his employer four days ago.

Kelantan acting police chief Zaki Harun said the teenager had complained that he was beaten by his employer at Kampung Mentara Lama in Gua Musang on Aug 22. He had sought treatment at the Merapoh health clinic in Pahang the next day.

He said the victim was referred to Hospital Kuala Lipis the same day but died at 6.30am yesterday.

He said a preliminary investigation found that he worked at a carpentry shop.

“The teenager was said to have been beaten after trying to collect payment for repair work done at a customer’s house without informing his employer,” Zaki said in a statement.

“His employer got angry and hit him with a helmet.”

The 40-year-old suspect has been remanded until Aug 30.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
