Kelantan acting police chief Zaki Harun said Kittichai Chaengkhao, 28, died in hospital this morning after receiving treatment at its emergency unit.
He said Kittichai, who was from Chumpong, Thailand, had lost to a Malaysian muay thai boxer, aged 29, from the Kuala Lumpur Red Army Club.
He was married and had a child, he said.
“The victim was brought in unconscious to the Badang health clinic at about 1am yesterday, but was then sent to the emergency unit but died later,” he said today.
Zaki said the body was then taken to the Rantau Panjang border checkpoint at 8pm yesterday to be handed over to his next of kin.
Police have also recorded statements from the organisers of the muay thai championship on the case and found that they had a permit to hold the event, he added.
