Turun protesters to ‘celebrate’ Ismail’s first year as PM

They are demanding the return of a year's pay from the PM and his ministers to be used for welfare purposes.

The Turun protest group, who held a rally on prices last month, intend to highlight the failures of Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s government at another rally.
PETALING JAYA:
A protest rally is being planned to “celebrate” Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s first year as prime minister next Saturday, highlighting failures in resolving major issues plaguing the country.

The government’s failings were said to include the rising prices of goods, food security, and the scandal involving the procurement of naval warships.

The rally organisers, the “Turun Committee”, said the Himpunan Kerajaan Gagal would be held outside the Sogo shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur. Last month, the group had organised the “Turun” rally in protest against rising prices.

The committee said in a statement: “It is clear that the policies, actions and behaviour of the Ismail-led government and Umno have failed in all aspects, as they are there only for power and are bereft of ideas to develop the country.

“We need to get down and celebrate Ismail’s first anniversary as prime minister and demand pay cuts among the members of his Cabinet and the return of a year’s worth of pay by the prime minister and his ministers.”

The funds should be channelled back to government coffers for welfare purposes, the committee said.
