Mindef ready to assist in LCS probe, says Hishammuddin

The defence minister says the Mindef leadership has nothing to hide.

Defence minister Hishammuddin Hussein said there would be no interference in the Cabinet’s decision.
KUALA LUMPUR:
The ministry of defence (Mindef) will fully cooperate with all authorities involved in investigating the littoral combat ship (LCS) issue.

These included the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), and the public governance, procurement and finance investigation committee (JKSTUPKK).

“The Mindef leadership has nothing to hide. Instead, we want the investigations to be completed for the sake of the Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM), the people and the country.

“Mindef can also assure that there will be no interference in the Cabinet’s decision and the three things that I have put forward,” defence minister Hishammuddin Hussein said in a statement.

First and foremost, he said, TLDM needs the LCS and therefore the project must go on in tandem with the Cabinet’s decision last April.

Secondly, those involved must be brought to justice while the third is that within six months, Mindef will carry out discussions with the original equipment manufacturers (OEM), vendor and financial institutions to mobilise the completion of the LCS.

“It is important for all stakeholders to focus on efforts to continue with the LCS project to ensure TLDM is equipped with the LCS as soon as possible as it is much needed,” said Hishammuddin who welcomed the announcement by Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob today on the matter.
