Cops arrest over 4,000 in 3-day anti-drug operation

Police secretary Noorsiah Saaduddin says drugs valued at RM607,878.91 were seized in the operation dubbed Ops Tapis Khas.

More than 4,000 individuals were arrested in a three-day anti-drug operation from July 27 to 29.

In a statement, police secretary Noorsiah Saaduddin said 201 roadblocks were set up nationwide during the operation dubbed Ops Tapis Khas.

“Throughout the operation, 9,684 individuals were inspected, out of which 4,243 were arrested for various drug-related offences,” she said, adding that the individuals were aged between 14 and 70 years old.

The majority of the individuals (2,077) were arrested for alleged drug use under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

Noorsiah also said 99.03kg and 508 litres of drugs, valued at RM607,878.91, were seized. A pistol, 30 bullets and three airguns were also seized.

The department confiscated other assets such as vehicles, jewellery and musical instruments worth RM811,608.

Noorsiah said that a total of 20,561 people had been arrested for drug-related offences since the first Ops Tapis Khas in January.

Overall, more than two tonnes and 2,530.32 litres of drugs, valued at more than RM15 million, have been seized during the operation.
