Zahid said that to win Selangor, there must be a game-changer as the state is known for its unconventional politics.
“We have been warlords for a long time. If we want change in Selangor, accept anyone who is loyal to the party and is able to help, no matter where he is from,” he said when speaking at the Selangor BN convention here today.
Zahid also spoke about Tengku Zafrul Aziz’s appointment as Selangor BN treasurer and said the appointment was Tengku Zafrul’s stepping stone to becoming a politician.
Asked if Tengku Zafrul would be a candidate at the next general election, Zahid said BN was looking for heavyweight candidates in Selangor but it did not necessarily have to be Tengku Zafrul.
However, he hinted that Tengku Zafrul, who is finance minister, had brought “sugar” with him to recapture the state. “Noh Omar (Selangor BN chairman) said there is sugar (to be brought), Tengku Zafrul will bring it,” said Zahid.
He said Tengku Zafrul would be able to make contributions to the position. “The opportunity is the best not only because he is known but he also must have a wish to be directly involved in politics,” he said.
Zahid said Tengku Zafrul has been an Umno member since 1993 and as a Selangor native, he was suitable for the post of Selangor BN treasurer.
