PETALING JAYA:
All government hospitals and clinics under the health ministry will soon provide the option for cashless payments.

In a circular issued by the health ministry, its secretary-general Harjeet Singh said the new system will be made effective from October 1.

He added that payments using debit and credit cards as well as e-wallets will be accepted in all government health facilities.

However, cash payments will still be allowed.

Harjeet said the reasons for going cashless are:

  • Reducing the risk of leakage of public funds;
  • More efficient and smooth counter services;
  • Cutting operational costs and processes; and
  • Reducing the risk of Covid-19 transmission via a contactless platform.

He said the ministry expects 95% of transactions in its hospitals and clinics to be cashless by the end of the year.

“The directive is part of Putrajaya’s ongoing digitisation efforts,” he added.
