6 remanded after teen set on fire over RM100 theft

The 15-year-old boy suffered 40% burns on his neck and back after reportedly being attacked by his friends.

Three of those remanded are factory workers while the others are unemployed.
KUALA TERENGGANU:
Six men have been remanded for five days to assist in the case of a teenager who suffered burns on his neck and back after his friends set him on fire in Kemaman on Friday.

The remand order was issued by the magistrates’ court after an application by the police for an investigation into attempted murder.

Kemaman district police chief Hanyan Ramlan said all the suspects, aged 18 to 28, were arrested on Friday and yesterday.

“Three are factory workers while the other three are unemployed. One of the suspects, aged 28, has a previous offence related to drugs,” he said.

Earlier, it was reported that a 15-year-old boy was set on fire by his friends after being accused of stealing RM100 at about 3am in Kampung Perasing Jaya, Jabor.

The teenager, who suffered 40% burns on his neck and back, is being treated at the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital in Kuantan and is reported to be in stable condition.
