Sultan Ibrahim returns from break

The Sultan of Johor heads to Singapore today for an official visit.

Johor’s Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar had gone on leave for a month.
PETALING JAYA:
Johor’s Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has returned from his break from royal duties and resumed his position as the state’s ruler, the Johor palace said today.

He had gone on leave for about a month, with his son Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim acting as regent since June 16.

In opening the Johor state assembly meeting last month, Sultan Ibrahim had said he wanted to “rest for a while”.

On his first day back, Sultan Ibrahim headed to Singapore today for an official visit, following an invitation from the city-state’s prime minister Lee Hsien Loong.

Earlier this morning, Sultan Ibrahim and the Permaisuri of Johor Raja Zarith Sofiah Sultan Idris Shah received Singapore’s national development minister Desmond Lee and wife at Istana Bukit Serene.

The minister and his wife then escorted the sultan and permaisuri to Singapore.

“Sultan Ibrahim’s visit is a reaffirmation of the warm ties shared between Johor and Singapore,” said the Johor royal press office.
