Instead, Syukri said the delegates were not allowed to enter as their branches had not conducted the required annual general meeting (AGM) nor sent the relevant report to the party.
“This is mandatory for every branch. The report on the branch AGM must have enough signatures and the AGM must have fulfilled the quorum,” he said when met by reporters at the sidelines of the PKR Youth congress held at IDCC Shah Alam here.
He said only 75 of the 222 PKR Youth branches nationwide held its AGM last year, adding that the names of those 75 branches were listed on the party’s website.
“Details such as branch names and its list of members were all provided on the website. They could have checked before they came here,” he said.
He was asked to comment on a commotion that took place outside the congress earlier today when some delegates and observers were not allowed to enter.
Syukri also said while there were 675 delegates who were eligible to attend the congress, the hall’s capacity was limited to 400 people.
Meanwhile, Klang PKR Youth chief Shahrul Adnan said he was disappointed that he was unable to exercise his right to vote for the new line-up of youth leaders.
“The irony is that we cannot join the youth congress and vote for the PKR Youth central leadership committee, but we can vote for the PKR central leadership committee tomorrow,” he told FMT.
He added that he hoped to see some consistency in the party’s rules and regulations.
