GEORGE TOWN:
Nine areas in Penang are still facing water supply disruptions following the temporary closure of a water treatment plant on Wednesday due to the floods in Baling, Kedah.

The Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) said water supply had been fully restored in most of the state, but eight locations in the southwest of the island and another in Seberang Perai Selatan were still affected as at 6pm.

They are Relau, Persiaran Kelicap, Jalan Kenari, Kampung Matahari Naik, Puspakom, Batu Hitam, Casia Sunway and Permatang Damar Laut in the southwest district, and the prison complex in Seberang Perai Selatan.

On Wednesday, operations at the Sungai Dua plant was halted for four hours because of high levels of raw water turbidity after a mud flood in Baling, Kedah.

Water tankers would distribute treated water to affected areas, the corporation said.

“PBAPP will also distribute water bottles to affected areas through the state assemblyman’s office. However, priority is given to hospitals, dialysis centres and other more urgent needs, such as funeral matters,” it said.
