Covid-19 cases hit 4,000 mark, highest since April

The health ministry says there has been a 25% increase in the number of infections over the past week.

PETALING JAYA:
Malaysia recorded 4,020 Covid-19 cases yesterday, highlighting a steady rise in the number of cases over the past few days.

This comes as 1,918 cases were recorded on Monday, 2,932 on Tuesday and 3,561 on Wednesday.

According to the health ministry’s GitHub database, this also marks the first time that more than 4,000 cases have been recorded in a day after 4,006 cases were recorded on April 24.

Yesterday’s infections comprised 4,011 local cases and nine imported cases.

Overall, there has been a 25% increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in the country over the past week.

As of midnight yesterday, there were 33,839 active cases, with 1,156 hospitalised. Of this, 45 were in intensive care units (ICU), with 23 requiring respiratory assistance.

There were also 1,718 recoveries yesterday.

Three deaths were recorded, with two of them classified as brought-in-dead (BID).

The total number of Covid-19 cases stands at 4,586,322.

The death toll stands at 35,795.

In a statement yesterday, health minister Khairy Jamaluddin advised the public to continue to be cautious when celebrating Hari Raya Aidiladha this week to curb the spread of Covid-19.

“Wear a face mask while in enclosed or crowded areas, and practise the TRIIS (Test, Report, Isolate, Inform, Seek) method,” he said on Twitter.

“Do a self-test before returning to your village.”
