New Covid-19 cases up 6.1% to 16,694 in past week

Hospital admissions also rose by 10% per population of 100,000.

There was an increase in the number of Covid-19 patients admitted to public hospitals and quarantine centres last week.

The number of new Covid-19 cases increased last week by 6.1% to 16,694 from 15,739 the week before, said health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

In his update for the week ending July 2, Noor Hisham said the increase in cases also saw a rise in the number of people admitted to public hospitals and quarantine centres.

The number of hospital admissions rose by 10% per population of 100,000 compared with the preceding week.

Overall bed occupancy for non-critical cases increased by 4%, while utilisation of intensive care unit (ICU) beds rose by 2%.

He said there are 28,956 active cases.

“Recoveries rose by 1.5% from 14,078 to 14,293,” he said in a statement.

“The number of deaths increased by 100% from 13 to 26, bringing the cumulative figure for fatalities to 35,771.”

Noor Hisham also said 4,571,355 Covid-19 cases had been recorded in the country since January 2020.
