Father, son drown while cleaning lotus plants in pond

The man and his two teenage sons were at work at Sungai Chua Recreational Park when their overladen boat overturned.

PETALING JAYA:
A father and his teenage son drowned after their boat capsized while they were cleaning a reservoir pond of overgrown lotus plants.

Their boat overturned after being overloaded with the plants at the Sungai Chua Recreational Park in Kajang.

Kajang police chief Zaid Hassan said the 51-year-old father’s body was found at 5.10pm while the body of his 15-year-old son was found at 6.56pm. Another son, a 17-year-old, managed to swim to safety.

Zaid urged those with information on the incident to get in touch with the Kajang police station.

Selangor fire and rescue department director Norazam Khamis said the department received a distress call at 2.15pm that a man and his two sons were on a boat which capsized. He said the pond has a depth of 30 metres.
