KUALA LUMPUR:
Rosmah Mansor has filed a new bid before the High Court, seeking to disqualify Gopal Sri Ram from leading the prosecution in her ongoing corruption trial linked to a RM1.25 billion solar project.

She claimed that Sri Ram’s appointment as an ad hoc prosecutor – made under Section 376(3) of the Criminal Procedure Code – is defective.

She alleged that the former Federal Court judge was only appointed by then attorney-general Tommy Thomas to handle the prosecution in 1MDB-related cases and not her corruption case.

Rosmah, the wife of former prime minister Najib Razak, sought the court order to set aside Sri Ram’s appointment as well as to suspend the proceedings for her corruption case.

The court fixed June 30 for Rosmah’s bid to obtain leave so she could commence her legal challenge against Sri Ram’s appointment.

Last year, Rosmah had filed a similar application to remove Sri Ram from prosecuting her solar project case as well as a court declaration to nullify her corruption case but her application was dismissed by the courts.

Rosmah is facing three counts of corruption for allegedly soliciting RM187.5 million from former Jepak Holdings Sdn Bhd managing director Saidi Abang Samsudin, through former aide Rizal Mansor, as an inducement to help the company secure the solar project for rural schools in Sarawak.

She is also accused of receiving bribes amounting to RM6.5 million from Saidi between 2016 and 2017.

Another High Court is set to rule on Rosmah’s corruption case on July 7.
