PETALING JAYA:
Police have nabbed four people over a video in which they were seen supporting a politician from India who made offensive remarks about Prophet Muhammad.

The four suspects, all of whom are foreigners, were nabbed in Klang.

In the video, which was uploaded on TikTok, the men, who voiced support for Nupur Sharma from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), claimed to be part of a group called Hindu Samachar.

On May 26, Nupur made derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad, sparking unrest in India as well as triggering a diplomatic row with several Muslim countries.

Nupur has been suspended, while another BJP leader Naveen Kumar Jindal has been expelled.

Police also confiscated a smartphone which was believed to have been used to make the TikTok video.

The suspects are being investigated for making seditious remarks and statements with the intent to disrupt public order under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act, Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Police are still hunting for the remaining members of the group and they have been urged to come forward to assist in the investigation.

Members of the public with knowledge of the matter are requested to contact Bukit Aman CID at 03-2266 6071.
