This comes after former DAP deputy secretary-general Nga Kor Ming posted a picture of hundreds at Tugu Negara, where a peaceful rally was held for a review of the military pension scheme.
The group of veterans had expressed dissatisfaction with the government, accusing it of not looking after the welfare of retired, non-pensionable and retrenched soldiers.
Nga had said the government needed to stop wasting money and instead offer help for former soldiers.
Najib, however, reminded Nga that the Bantuan Bakti Negara (BBN) given to veterans was abolished during Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) rule after the coalition had claimed the country was “bankrupt”.
“Why didn’t you increase the pension and welfare of veteran soldiers during PH’s rule?” he questioned in a statement on social media today.
He also noted that yearly dividends from the Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT) had depreciated after GE14 compared to when he was prime minister.
In contrast, he brought up the five incentives he implemented for veterans of armed forces, including aid schemes such as the BBN and veterans’ annuity scheme.
Najib claimed that veterans had only heard about pension schemes during PH’s time while they did not actually see an increase.
