
Prior to the new appointment, Saraya, 59, was the ministry’s deputy secretary-general.
Zuki said the appointment of Saraya was based on her qualifications, leadership qualities and vast experience while holding several positions in various fields.
Saraya has served in human resources and policy and strategic planning, especially in the public service department and Motac.
“I believe that with her experience, knowledge and credibility, Saraya is able to lead Malaysia’s tourism and cultural sector as one of the main contributors to the country’s economy,” said Zuki in a statement.
Saraya, who holds a master’s degree in public administration from New York University, has been in the civil service for 33 years, starting as an administrative and diplomatic officer on Aug 1, 1989.
