Footballer, 21, dies after match

The youth who represented Selangor in the President's Cup tournament collapsed and died after a match at PKNS Kelana Jaya last night.

PETALING JAYA:
A 21-year-old footballer who represented Selangor in the President’s Cup tournament collapsed and died after a match at PKNS Kelana Jaya last night.

Deputy Petaling Jaya district police chief Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said the youth had played for Selangor against Johor last night.

When he went to a food court near Sunway X Park for dinner with his teammates, he started having breathing difficulties and then collapsed.

Ku Mashariman said Petaling Jaya police were alerted to the matter at 9.58pm, adding that the victim had a history of asthma attacks.

They found the man lying unconscious near the food court’s toilet.

He said the case was classified as sudden death, while the victim’s body had been sent to the University Malaya Medical Centre for an autopsy.
