Sixty-one-year-old Zainol Din Hussain said he had lodged a report and would now leave it to the authorities to investigate. He hoped police could prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
“I do not want such an incident to repeat itself. While I am upset by the incident, I forgive the attacker.
“I leave it to the law and police to resolve the case,” he said at his house in Padang Jawa.
Last Sunday, a viral 21-second video showed a motorcyclist repeatedly beating a senior citizen along a road. Bystanders had attempted to stop the assailant but a scuffle then ensued.
The 23-year-old suspect was arrested on the same day after Zainol lodged a report at the Shah Alam district police headquarters.
Zainol said he was feeling weak and unable to defend himself as he had undergone dialysis treatment the day before.
The suspect claimed that the fight was due to a collision between the victim’s car and his motorcycle. Zainol, however, denied this.
He also denied a claim that an “obscene gesture” caused the fight to erupt.
Zainol said the incident had taken a toll on his health and both he and his wife were now afraid to leave the house.
“Ever since the incident, I have had difficulty breathing while my left rib often hurts,” he said.
