PETALING JAYA:
Sindumin assemblyman and former Warisan information chief Yusof Yacob has rejoined Umno.

According to a Sinar Harian report, Yusof’s return to Umno was announced by Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Bung Moktar Radin yesterday.

“This will strengthen the party,” Bung said.

Yusof, the former Sipitang MP, previously served as the Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker.

In the run-up to the 14th general election (GE14), he quit Umno and joined Warisan. He won the Sindumin state seat and defended it for Warisan in the 2020 state election.

Last October, Yusof quit the party to become an independent assemblyman supporting Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob at the federal level and the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah-led state government.

He also said he had discussed his departure with Warisan president Shafie Apdal, who had no objections.
