High traffic at highway hotspots as free toll weekend ends

KUALA LUMPUR:
Traffic flow in several areas on major highways, especially those heading to the Klang Valley, was high at 10pm tonight.

A spokesman for the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) said the affected areas in the north included 21km from Pendang to the Gurun rest stop in Kedah, and 13km from Sungai Petani to Bertam, Penang.

High traffic flow was reported along 22km from Gurun to Pendang, 12km from Sungai Dua toll plaza, Penang, to Sungai Petani, Kedah; and from Kuala Kangsar, Perak, to Bukit Berapit, Penang.

As for the east coast, high traffic was reported on the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway, 2km from East Bentong to Bentong toll plaza; 14km from there to Bukit Tinggi; 2.6km from Genting Sempah to the tunnel; and 2.7km before the Gombak toll plaza.

In the south, traffic was slow moving because of an accident at Km 253 north from Pedas Linggi to Senawang. Traffic flow is also high to the south for 8.9km from the Kulai rest stop to the Kulai exit.

Free tolls on the North-South Highway and the East Coast Expressway which started at midnight yesterday will end at 11.59pm tonight.
