KUALA LUMPUR:
Traffic flow on major highways heading to the capital was reported high at 9pm tonight without any unusual congestion, a spokesman for the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) said.

The LLM Twitter page reported high traffic flow northbound on the North-South Highway for 4.4km from Bukit Berapit to Bukit Gantang rest and recreation centre in Perak, and 12km from Juru Auto City to Permatang Pauh in mainland Penang.

Southbound traffic flow was also reported to be slow for 18km from Bukit Berapit to Sungai Perak, 25km from Ipoh Utara to Ipoh Selatan, 4.5km from Tapah to Bidor and 26km from Bidor to Sungkai.

The number of vehicles on the road is expected to increase by midnight as the North-South Highway and the East Coast Highway will be toll-free after midnight tonight until 11.59pm on Sunday.

“So far no unusual congestion has occurred and the traffic flow tonight is somewhat reduced compared to the movement of vehicles two or three days ago,” he said.

“However, we expect more people to start the journey back to their homes, especially towards the Klang Valley starting at midnight later (due to free tolls),” said the spokesman.

The spokesman advised the public to follow the schedule of suggested travel times to avoid congestion.
