PETALING JAYA:
The Penang health department has urged the public not to speculate on the cause of death of a houseman at Penang Hospital.

State health department director Dr Ma’arof Sudin said in a statement the houseman’s death was being investigated by police.

“The post-mortem has already been conducted and we are waiting for the results. The report will be handed over to police to assist them in their investigations.

“In the meantime, we hope the public will not speculate on the houseman’s death and will stop spreading unconfirmed information regarding the incident,” he added.

The junior doctor fell to his death on April 17, just three weeks after being posted to the hospital. In December 2020, a trainee doctor there also fell to his death, three weeks after quitting his job.

Earlier today, Penang deputy chief minister P Ramasamy and state health exco Norlela Ariffin urged the federal government to address issues faced by junior doctors, such as being bullied or overworked.

Police have classified the case as sudden death but said they might reclassify it “if fresh evidence comes to light”.
