We don’t know if PAS’ leaked documents are genuine, says PM

PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad maintains the party’s top leadership never discussed any plan to topple certain Umno leaders.

Ismail Sabri Yaakob has avoided comment on the alleged PAS leaked documents, which the party leadership has rubbished.
PETALING JAYA:
Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has decided not to comment on leaked documents from a PAS meeting allegedly of a plan to topple certain Umno leaders, saying its authenticity remained unclear.

“We don’t even know if the documents are authentic or not,” Ismail told reporters after an event in Putrajaya today, Sinar Harian reported.

The leaked documents are said to be minutes of a PAS meeting that allegedly mentioned a plot to topple and disrupt Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN).

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s lawyers previously said they will lodge a police report over the documents that allegedly mentioned the need for “interference” in court cases involving certain Umno leaders to “hasten their sentencing”.

Several prominent figures have been linked to the alleged plot, including PAS vice-president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar and secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, as well as Bersatu leaders Azmin Ali and Hamzah Zainudin.

Meanwhile, Umno vice-president Khaled Nordin urged party leaders whose names were mentioned in the document to explain themselves over the matter, saying their silence would only raise more questions.

While he did not name them specifically, Khaled told Malaysiakini that these Umno leaders must clarify why they had held meetings with PAS.

He said he would not be surprised if the leaked documents turned out to be authentic and that there really was a plot against Umno, citing the Islamic party’s “behaviour” of late.
