PETALING JAYA:
A 49-year-old man has been arrested in Kuching for beating up a Good Samaritan who had gone to the aid of a victim in a fatal accident.

The arrest was made after a 20-second video clip was widely shared on social media, showing a man being beaten with a cane on Wednesday, Utusan Borneo reported.

Kuching police chief Ahsmon Bajah said the attack was the result of a misunderstanding. The Good Samaritan had tried to give first aid to a motorcyclist involved in an accident with a lorry. “He was mistaken to be the lorry driver and was beaten with a cane.”

Ahsmon said the man’s family lodged a report after he was admitted to hospital for treatment. The cane believed to have been used by the suspect was retrieved from a nearby bush.
