The council said riding e-scooters was an offence under Section 54 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for dangerous or careless driving.
It added that no licence had been issued to e-scooter operators.
“E-scooter activities are actively monitored for the public’s safety.
“MBPP will continue to work with police and the road transport department (JPJ) to ensure our roads are safe for all users,” it said in a statement on Facebook.
Yesterday, transport minister Wee Ka Siong was reported as saying that the ministry would come up with bylaws relating to the use of e-scooters, including the implementation of licences for e-scooter users and suppliers.
This was especially so since e-scooters could travel as fast as a motorcycle.
Currently, laws governing the use of e-scooters come under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333) (Amendment) 2020.
