16 Covid-19 deaths, 7,140 new cases

There were 264 imported cases yesterday.

Four of the deaths were classified as brought-in-dead cases.
PETALING JAYA:
The health ministry reported 16 Covid-19 deaths yesterday, up from 12 previously.

The death toll stands at 35,437.

According to the ministry’s GitHub database, there were 7,140 new cases, compared with 6,623 a day earlier. They comprised 6,876 local cases and 264 imported cases.

Four of the deaths were classified as brought-in-dead (BID) cases.

Selangor recorded five deaths, followed by Johor (3), Kedah, Penang and Terengganu (2 each) and Perak and Sarawak (1 each).

There were no deaths in the other states and federal territories.

As of midnight, there were 96,601 active cases, with 2,308 hospitalised. Of this, 110 were in intensive care units (ICU), with 68 requiring respiratory assistance.

There were also 14,423 recoveries recorded.

The total number of Covid-19 cases stands at 4,396,165.
