KUALA LUMPUR:
Ramadan bazaar traders must ensure their food is safe for consumption or strict action will be taken against them, health minister Khairy Jamaluddin said.

Following complaints about dirty food and drinks at bazaars, Khairy said he had instructed the ministry’s food safety and quality division to increase enforcement.

“Traders who fail to adhere to the guidelines on food and beverage safety and personal hygiene will be ordered to shut down their operations.”

Yesterday, a video went viral showing a customer who found worms in her food bought at a Ramadan bazaar in Putrajaya.

The woman had lodged a complaint with Putrajaya Corporation and asked it to conduct an inspection at the bazaar.

Acting on the complaint, Putrajaya Corporation in a statement today said it had conducted inspections at the bazaar and issued warning notices.
