Don’t skip Covid-19 tests, symptomatic close contacts told

PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) has urged symptomatic close contacts of Covid-19 positive cases to get tested.

MMA president Dr Koh Kar Chai said while there was no longer a requirement for asymptomatic close contacts to undergo quarantine, the association hoped symptomatic close contacts would not skip testing.

“If you have tested positive, report yourselves on the MySejahtera app so that your condition can be assessed and managed,” he said in a statement.

MMA advised those who experienced symptoms but tested negative on their self-test kit to seek medical attention to rule out other possible illnesses.

Health minister Khairy Jamaluddin said yesterday that effective April 22, Covid-19 close contacts would no longer have to undergo mandatory quarantine, even if they had not been vaccinated.

“Close contacts don’t need to be isolated if they don’t have any symptoms, regardless of their vaccination status,” he said.

Before this, close contacts who had received their booster jabs and were symptomatic had to quarantine for five days.

Close contacts who were fully vaccinated but not boosted also had to undergo five-day quarantine, while those who were not fully vaccinated had to be isolated for seven days.

The quarantine period for positive cases remains seven days.
