374 new hospital admissions, ICUs at 18% capacity

PETALING JAYA:
There were 374 new hospital admissions involving Covid-19 cases yesterday, the health ministry said.

Of this, 220 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 154 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.

Selangor had the highest number of new admissions with 89, followed by Perak (52) and Johor (30).

A total of 365 patients were also discharged yesterday.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 18% of their total capacity of 861 beds.

No state has exceeded 50% in ICU bed capacity nor normal Covid-19 bed capacity.

A total of 89 patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilators being used at 10% of their maximum capacity.

In terms of the total capacity for both Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients at public hospitals, critical beds were at 57% capacity while 53% of ICUs were in use.

Eight new clusters were also reported yesterday.

The Covid-19 infectivity rate (R0) stood at 0.86.
