PUTRAJAYA: Jakim, the Islamic development department, said today it would abide by an order that the department cannot issue any statement regarding decisions made by the muzakarah committee of the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs.
Jakim director-general Hakimah Mohd Yusoff said as secretary of the council, she had taken note and would abide by the order from the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, in his capacity as the council’s chairman.
Sultan Sharafuddin had said earlier today that Jakim could not issue any statement regarding decisions made by the council.
Any statement regarding decisions made by the council was under the jurisdiction of the muzakarah committee, the Islamic council and the Conference of Rulers.
He said Jakim acted only as the secretariat to the muzakarah committee and the national Islamic council.
