MERSING:
British diver Adrian Peter Chesters and French national Alexia Alexandra Molina, who went missing on Wednesday, were found safe early today.

Mersing police chief Cyril Edward Nuing said they were found by local fishermen at a location south of Pengerang, near Kota Tinggi, at about 1am, who then informed the authorities.

He said the two victims were then sent to a private hospital in Pasir Gudang by the Region Two Marine Police.

“Both victims are now in hospital for further treatment and both are reported to be in stable condition.

“The fourth victim has still not been found and we are intensifying our search and rescue efforts, ” he told reporters at the Carilamat base set up at the Mersing district council public jetty here today.

The missing victim is Adrian’s son, Nathen Renze Chesters, 14, who is a Dutch citizen.

The four foreign divers were reported missing while diving off Pulau Tokong Sanggol here on Wednesday.

Norwegian Kristine Grodem was rescued the next day about 30 nautical miles from the scene.

Grodem, 35, who is the diving instructor for the others, was found safe by a tugboat at 8.15am on Thursday having drifted 30 nautical miles from the scene.

Following her rescue, Cyril said Grodem told police all four divers made the first dive for 45 minutes before coming to the surface.

“On the second dive, they surfaced after 20 minutes, but Grodem noticed a strong current and frantically called out to the (boat) skipper but she could not be heard as they had drifted about 500m from the boat,” he added.
