Deputy public prosecutor Asnawi Abu Hanipah told the High Court the fire was “staged” by three people — Nazrin’s wife Samirah Muzaffar and two teenagers.
Samirah, the two boys, and Indonesian Eka Wahyu Lestari, who is at large, are on trial for murdering Nazrin at their home in Mutiara Damansara on June 14, 2018.
The two teenagers cannot be identified as they were minors at the time of the alleged crime.

“The fire had an ‘irregular pattern’ as it only affected the wall where the bed frame was, Nazrin’s head and his Blackberry phone next to the bed.
“The body, as well as other items that are also flammable, were not affected by the flames,” Asnawi said in his closing submissions at the end of the prosecution’s case.
At the opening of Nazrin’s murder trial on Sept 6, 2019, the prosecution had stated that it will prove that he died before he was found burnt in his room.
It claimed the fire was “deliberately lit to hide the real reasons for Nazrin’s death”.
Asnawi also urged the court to look at Samirah’s conduct as she had not called the fire and rescue department despite knowing there was smoke coming out from her house.
“The inference here is that the accused (Samirah) knew a fire had broken out at her home, but she let the fire escalate so that it could destroy evidence,” he added.
The hearing continues on April 13 before trial judge Ab Karim Ab Rahman.
Samirah and the teenagers’ lead counsel Shafee Abdullah said the defence will respond next to the prosecution’s submission.
