897 new hospital admissions, ICUs at 30% capacity

PETALING JAYA:
There were 897 new hospital admissions involving Covid-19 cases yesterday, the health ministry said.

Of this, 468 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 429 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.

Pahang had the highest number of new admissions with 155, followed by Selangor (143) and Perak (110).

A total of 762 patients were also discharged yesterday.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 30% of their total capacity of 882 beds.

The use of ICU beds exceeded 50% capacity only in Kuala Lumpur, which is at 67%.

A total of 162 patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilators being used at 18% of their maximum capacity.

The use of normal Covid-19 beds have exceeded 50% capacity in Putrajaya (88%) and Selangor (64%).

In terms of public hospitals’ total capacity (Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients), non-critical beds were at 52% while 57% of ICUs were in use.

There were also six clusters reported yesterday.

Malaysia’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R0 or R-nought) stood at 0.87.
