KUALA LUMPUR:
Former student activist Fahmi Zainol is throwing his hat into the ring for the PKR Youth chief’s post in party elections in May.

The wing’s current chief is Akmal Nasir.

At a press conference today, Fahmi, who is the Penang PKR Youth chief, also introduced his team members that would contest in the party elections.

They include Rawang assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat and Melaka Youth chief Prasanth Kumar, who will contest for the Youth deputy chief and vice-chief posts respectively.

Batu MP P Prabakaran also joined Fahmi’s line-up and will contest for a place in the PKR Youth executive council.

Fahmi said he was confident with his line-up of leaders from diverse backgrounds such as state assemblymen, students, political activists and professionals.

“I am confident that this diversity will be able to win over the hearts of the grassroots as well as young Malaysians from all backgrounds,” he said.

Fahmi said he would focus on three main policies — gaining the support of young voters and first-time voters; raising participation of youths and the party’s youth wing in the 15th general election; and strengthening PKR Youth.

Asked about others who may also contest for the Youth chief’s post, Fahmi said he welcomed former student activist Adam Ali’s participation and hoped they would have a healthy contest.
