PETALING JAYA:
A teenager accused of murdering her new born son made a fresh bid to secure bail before the Court of Appeal pending disposal of her case.

Her lawyer, Sangeet Kaur Deo, said the defence filed the fresh application today.

The Kuala Terengganu High Court had rejected the girl’s bid for bail earlier this month. However, the court had ordered her to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

The teenager was charged at the Kemaman magistrates’ court for murdering her newborn baby on Feb 8 at a house in Seri Bandi, Kemaman.

During the court’s proceedings on Feb 15, co-counsel Nurainie Haziqah Shafi’i made a bail application to have the teenager released pending trial, under Section 388 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The girl, a rape victim, was previously remanded by police to facilitate investigations into the death of the newborn baby.
