“We did not expect these results. If the voter turnout had been more than 70%, the results may have been different,” he said at a press conference at the PH war room this evening.
Unofficial results show BN with 40 seats in the 56-seat state assembly, with 12 for Pakatan Harapan, three for Perikatan Nasional, and one for Muda. The opposition coalitions had previously held 27 and 12 seats respectively.
“The results are not something we can be proud of. They are acceptable but we need to improve,” Aminolhuda added.
He said PH would not give up on getting the people’s mandate and play a check-and-balance role in the state assembly.
Aminolhuda lost to the BN candidate in the contest for the Parit Yaani state seat.
Earlier, DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang said the Johor state election results would have been different if parties had been given an extra week to campaign.
He said PH would study the results further and “rebuild on lost ground”, especially in the four seats that DAP failed to defend — Yong Peng, Kukup, Paloh and Pekan Nenas.
