2,135 hospital admissions, ICUs at 43% capacity

There were 2,135 hospital admissions involving Covid-19 cases yesterday, the health ministry said.

Of this, 1,302 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 833 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.

Selangor had the highest number of admissions with 311, followed by Perak (249) and Johor (225).

Meanwhile, 1,608 patients were discharged yesterday.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 43% of their total capacity of 877 beds.

ICU beds in six regions have exceeded 50% capacity, namely Kelantan (75%), Johor (68%), Putrajaya (67%), Kuala Lumpur (58%), Selangor (57%) and Penang (51%).

A total of 231 patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilators being used at 26% of its maximum capacity.

The use of normal Covid-19 beds have exceeded 50% capacity in Putrajaya (112%), Selangor (111%), Kuala Lumpur (98%), Perlis (93%), Perak (89%), Terengganu (88%), Melaka (80%), Sarawak (77%), Kelantan (73%) Johor (63%), Pahang (58%) and Penang (58%).

In terms of public hospitals’ total capacity (Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients), non-critical beds were at 46% while 58% of ICUs were in use.

There were also four clusters reported yesterday.

Malaysia’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R-nought or R0) stood at 1.03.
