KUALA LUMPUR: A fisherman and his Vietnamese girlfriend have been charged with trafficking in 260kg of methamphetamine, believed to be the single biggest haul by Bukit Aman this year.
No plea was recorded from Adam Tan and Nguyen Thi Kim Thanh, both 30, when they were produced before magistrate Wong Chai Sia.
Only the High Court can hear the matter and pass sentence since the offence carries a death sentence upon conviction.
The duo are alleged to have committed the offence at a house in Kiara Residence here at about 9.30pm on Feb 24.
One is presumed to be a trafficker if in possession of 50gm and above of methamphetamine, commonly known as shabu.
Wong fixed the case for mention on May 11 to allow for the completion of the chemist report.
Deputy public prosecutor Phulani Kaur prosecuted while lawyers Kee Wei Lon and Low Wei Loke represented both the accused.
