2,019 Covid-19 admissions, ICUs at 42% capacity

A total of 1,521 patients were discharged yesterday.

ICU bed usage in seven regions has exceeded 50% capacity, in Putrajaya, Johor, Kuala Lumpur, Perlis, Kelantan, Selangor and Perak.

There were 2,019 new hospital admissions involving Covid-19 cases yesterday, the health ministry said.

Of this, 1,247 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 772 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.

Selangor had the highest number of new admissions, with 343, followed by Perak (249) and Johor (239).

Meanwhile, 1,521 patients were discharged yesterday.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said usage of Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) was at 42% of their total capacity of 883 beds.

Occupancy of ICU beds in seven regions has exceeded 50% capacity, in Putrajaya (83%), Johor (65%), Kuala Lumpur (65%), Perlis (64%), Kelantan (63%) Selangor (62%) and Perak (55%).

A total of 226 patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilators being used at 26% of their maximum capacity.

The use of normal Covid-19 beds has exceeded 50% capacity in Selangor (117%), Putrajaya (99%), Perak (97%), Kuala Lumpur (94%), Perlis (92%), Kelantan (83%), Terengganu (76%), Pahang (69%), Sarawak (68%), Johor (68%), Penang (57%) and Sabah (52%).

In terms of public hospitals’ total capacity (Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients), non-critical bed usage was at 47% while that of ICU beds was at 60%.

Eleven clusters were reported yesterday.

Malaysia’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R-nought or R0) stood at 1.05.
