
EC chairman Abdul Ghani Salleh said Barisan Nasional (BN) dan Perikatan Nasional (PN) are the only two coalitions to contest in all 56 state seats.
The next highest was Pakatan Harapan (PH) with 50 seats. Of the remaining parties, Pejuang was contesting in 42 seats, followed by Muda (7), Warisan (6), Parti Bangsa Malaysia (4), Putra (1) and PSM (1).
He said of the 239 candidates, there were 16 independents, and that the full list comprised 202 men and 37 women.
According to Ghani, there are seven state seats that will see three-cornered fights, 35 seats with four-way ties, and eight seats that have five candidates each.
“Meanwhile, four seats will see a six-cornered fight and two seats with a seven-cornered fight,” he said.
He added that the oldest candidate is PN’s Bukit Permai candidate Tosrin Jarvanthi, who is 72, while two candidates share the record of being the youngest at 26.
Johor will go to the polls on March 12 with early voting taking place on March 8.
