YONG PENG:
Tebrau MCA division chief Ng Yew Aik is MCA’s 15th and final candidate to represent Barisan Nasional (BN) in the Johor polls after he was announced as the party’s candidate for the Puteri Wangsa seat.

MCA president Wee Ka Siong announced Ng as the candidate at the party’s 73rd anniversary celebration at a public hall here today.

Wee said MCA will be contesting the Puteri Wangsa state seat for the first time, and pledged to work hard to ensure BN’s victory in the Johor state elections.

“The MCA election machinery is ready to help all BN candidates, regardless of component party, whether Umno or MIC, so that BN would obtain the mandate to govern Johor,” he told reporters after the event.

He described MCA’s victory in the Johor polls as very important, as the party did not win any state seats in the last general election (GE14).

“There was no MCA representative in the Johor state assembly elected in 2018.

“We must therefore make up for the defeat and reflect Johor’s plural society so that no race is left behind in the country’s development,” he said.

He said out of the 15 MCA candidates to be featured in the Johor polls on March 12, 10 are new faces.

“We hope they will be able to gain the confidence of young voters,” Wee said.
