PUTRAJAYA:
The Medical Device Authority (MDA) has been instructed to call all suppliers of Covid-19 self-test kits in the country following complaints that they were showing dubious results, health minister Khairy Jamaluddin said.

“I have also asked the agency to request suppliers to obtain quality assurance information from their principal factories,” he told a media conference on Covid-19 developments here today.

He said an assessment would also be made on test kits in the market to ensure that there was no drop in quality from the time they were approved till now.

“What transpires from MDA’s follow-up action will be communicated to the public later,” Khairy said.

Based on data sourced from the ministry, 49 self-test kits had been given conditional approval by the MDA up to Oct 27 last year.

SOPs for Johor polls

Meanwhile, on SOPs for the Johor state elections, Khairy said the Election Commission (EC) would be announcing the details.

“The ministry has made its recommendations and proposals and we have agreed with everything that was presented. I am confident that if the SOPs are adhered to, then they will be enough to prevent a drastic surge in cases,” he said.

The EC has fixed March 12 as polling day for the state elections, with nominations on Feb 26 and early voting on March 8.
