GEORGE TOWN:
A single mother whose three children were unilaterally converted to Islam will get to spend time with them at a government childcare facility in Jitra, Kedah, today.

Loh Siew Hong, 34, was earlier denied access to her 14-year-old twin daughters and 10-year-old son at the social welfare department facility because of Covid-19 restrictions.

The elated mother told FMT she was in Sungai Petani to buy her children’s favourite chicken rice and Chinese sweet desserts.

“They said I don’t need to test for Covid-19 again, as I did yesterday. I can’t wait to meet my kids,” she said.

Loh had assumed her children had gone missing after her former husband’s family claimed they were unaware of their thereabouts, and lodged a missing persons report.

She had divorced her husband and obtained custody of the children last year.

Police told her the children were under the care of the religious authorities in Perlis and later arranged for them to meet her at a police station in Kangar.

She asked for the children to be placed under the care of JKM before a habeas corpus suit is heard at the High Court in Kuala Lumpur on Feb 21.
