Selangor to expand programme to bring down food prices

Menteri besar Amirudin Shari says the state government is discussing with manufacturers to make available more food items in districts.

The Ehsan Food Prices Intervention Programme will be expanded to include other food items like eggs, says Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari.
SHAH ALAM:
The Selangor government is looking to expand its Ehsan Food Prices Intervention Programme to include other food items and cover more districts, says menteri besar Amirudin Shari.

On Feb 5, he announced that from Monday, the ceiling price of chicken in Selangor would be fixed at RM8 per kg for two weeks.

The programme, implemented by the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation, is focused at the Selangor wholesale market and Wisma PKPS in Shah Alam.

“The programme has been well received since its implementation.

“We will be discussing at the state government meeting tomorrow on how to expand this to include other food items, like eggs, and to expand it to other districts in the state,” he told reporters at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah building here today.

He said as this programme was temporary for Selangor, he hoped the federal government would step in and put a stop to price hikes immediately.
